DRDO’s new light, powerful drone ‘Bharat’ for surveillance at LAC.

Image
Courtesy : "ANI, NGWT" Post by Let-know The significance of DRDO’s new light, powerful drone ‘Bharat’ for surveillance at LAC. The crisis at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh could drag on for weeks if not months as there has been no further disengagement along the border. Accordingly, the build-up on the Indian side of the LAC may have to continue as the People’s Liberation Army seems to be in no mood to go back to the position it was in April. With thousands of Chinese troops and hi-tech weaponry also amassed on the other side of the LAC, the tense stalemate continues. In such a situation, the danger of a miscalculation or a small incident spiraling out of control cannot be completely ruled out. Meanwhile, as the rainy season gives way to autumn, it will turn quite cold in these parts in the treacherous Himalayan ranges through which the LAC passes. For all these reasons, the Indian military will have to up its surveillance game along the long border. This is where...

India Navy in quandary over LPD, considers fresh tender

Image
by Let-know (picture is only for representation ) New Delhi : The precarious situation that one of India’s private shipyards finds itself over its debts has put the navy in a quandary over how to proceed with a Rs 20,000-crore ($2.65-billion) tender for building four amphibious warships. One of the options being considered is to go for a fresh tender to widen the pool of available bidders for the four  Landing Platform Docks  (LPDs). But that too is fraught with trouble, as at least three of India’s private sector shipyards have gone bust in the last decade due to bad management or being short of orders that did not match their production capabilities. Said to be the largest-ever private sector warship building project of the  Indian Navy , the Dec. 2013 tender has been languishing for the last seven years, as  Reliance Naval and Engineering Limited   has gone into bankruptcy proceedings and the  Government of India  is keenly watching the efforts for...

Domestic arms makers say Army plan to reorder SIG rifles from US setback to ‘Make in India’ - "Detailed report"

Image
by Let-know (Indian made P-72 assault rifle of SSS defence) Army's fresh order for SIG assault rifles would mean over 1.4 lakh rifles will be bought off the shelf from US despite a domestic industry that manufactures a range of assault rifles. New Delhi:  The Army’s decision to go ahead with a  second order of 72,000 SIG 716 assault rifles  from the United States is yet another “setback” to the private small arms industry in India, and sharpens focus on the government’s inability to kickstart the  AK 203 production factory  in Amethi. When the order for the SIG assault rifles is placed — under the option clause of the original contract signed for 72,400 rifles — it would mean that over 1.4 lakh 7.62×51 mm rifles in total will be bought off the shelf from abroad without a ‘Make in India’ initiative. The domestic industry said the Army’s decision isn’t surprising, but is indeed a setback to them and doesn’t align with the government’s  aatma nirbharta ...

Image
by Let-know (Hal LCH carries 24 rounds of 70 mm hydra rockets & 4 rounds of of mistral air to air missile) In 2017, Then Indian army chief General Bipin Rawat had said Indigenous Attack/combat helicopters HAL Rudra and HAL Light Combat Helicopter have major shortcomings, that is in their current configuration both do not have suitable anti-tank guided missile (ATGM), which is the main weapon of any Attack/Combat helicopters around the world. Fast forward to 2020 and nothing much has changed since then as HAL Rudra MkIV and LCH Helicopters continue to be armed only with French Nexter 20mm turret gun and Belgian 70 mm rockets and waits for ATGM to be used as effective anti-armor, anti-bunker and anti-fortification role for the Strike Corps. DRDO developed Helina and SANT anti-tank guided missile system was supposed to provide lethal aerial firepower against the armored thrust of the rivals but DRDO has not been able to clear this trial phase of this missiles and enter production. Indian Army's Sarath BMP 2 in Ladakh ready to foil Chinese misadventure on LAC

The deployment of armored vehicles or BMP 2 is to counter threat to the Darbuk–Shyok-Daulat Beg Oldi (DSDBO) road, which is very important for the Indian Army.  The BMP 2 vehicles are not only capable of launching attacks on the enemy with missiles, mortars, rockets, and machine guns, but soldiers sitting inside can also move forward safely amid fire in the field. The deployment of BMP 2 on the confluence of the Galvan Valley and the Shyok river has created an impregnable wall of defence to deter any possible misadventure of the Chinese Army.
